Stone Work Before the Winter
Stone and brick driveways, walkways and decks are relatively maintenance free. But small cracks do form in the stones themselves or in the mortar surrounding them due to changes in temperature.
Sure, you can forget about them until the Spring, but if snow and ice melt, and water penetrates the cracks and refreezes, the cracks will expand and the stones will be pushed out of position or break. And what was a minor maintenance task in the Fall becomes a costly Spring repair project.
Walk around your home and check for cracks in your stone work. Have them repaired and repointed as needed.
